ETHIOP JUMPS WELL
Training Gallops at Riccarton CHRISTCHURCH, Aug. 3. The weather waa fine for training at Riccarton this morning. The outside of the course proper was open, but though there were plenty of horses out, not all were galloped seriously, some that raced on Saturday being let off with useful tasks. The steeplechase fences on the course proper are now available, but were not in great request. In Good Order. Trench Fight dashed over half a mile up the back in 50sec. He is in great order. Golden Lap went a mile in lmin. 54 3-5sec., Corowa joining in over the last half in 55 sec. Happy Night and Bonnie Agnes took 52see. for half a mile, Rival Hit and Day Dress following in 52 2-5sec. Greek Gold and Moonraker took 53sec. for the same' task. Sovereign Lady and Chidden were on terms at the end of seven furlongs in lmin. 32sec. Bay Duke sprinted half a mile in 51sec., going well. Cerne Abbas and Royal Chief weiit five furlongs in lmin. 4see., being pieked up by Elegy, who Tan six furlongs in lmin. 19 l-5sec. Dictate, Palmyra and Big Dook ran half a mile in 50sec. Miracle and Coming Star took 52sec. for the same distance. Rose of Tralee and Forum Tan six furlongs in lmin. 21sec. Grey Honour Well. Grey .Honour, Davolo and Chaste finished at intervals in a six furlongs gallop, the first-namcd registering lmin. 16 3-5sec., a good gallop. Swordstick was in front of Rousseau at the end of a mile in lmin. 44sec., Jolly Beggar, Fireguard and Monastic taking lmin. 45sec. Knoclcfin sprinted half a mile np the back in 51 2-5see. Araboa and Valantua went very well over five furlongs in lmin. 2 l-5sec. Marolia and Irish Fiddle Tan five furlongs in lmin. 5see., time Land Raid and Golden Dart equalled. Greek Shepherd and Tunneller were on terms over six furlongs in lmin. 19sec. Rebel Chief sprinted half a mile Up the back in 51sec. Owls Gleam and Pelmet Tan half a miie in 52 2-5sec. Cock o' the North registered lmin. 22 2-5sec. over six furlongs. Willie Win hit out nicely over seven furlongs in lmin. 30 l-5sec., Sunny Land tkking lmin. 33 2-5scc., Screamer doing five furlongs in lmin. 5 4-5see. Red Sun and Primak were associatfed over a smart school of six hurdles. Red Sun gave a polished display, but Primak also shaped very well for a noviQe. Ethiop jumped eight hurdles, giving a very attractive display. Hunting Bag went onee round the hurdles but was not at top speed. Forest Glow and Tangled went once round the steeplechase fences on the course proper, giving an attractive exhibition of clean jumping. Fiord went nicely over two hurdles and Culverden jumped two pony 'hurdles. ' Master Limond jumped the brush fence at the top of the straight, where he ran off on Saturday, also the fence near the carriage paddock. He cleared both in good style. It is understood that there will be a change of riders for ihe Grand National Steeplechase and that his trainer, D. O'Connor, will ipilot last year's winner. Manawatu Sent Home. ' The steeplechaser, Manawatu, has ibeen sent home. He injured an off jforeleg a few weeks ago, and as he i'showsd signs of the trouble last week, !it was decided not to persevere with 'him. | Peacock and Te Ahuarangi were sent •home after racing at the Christchurch •Hunt Club's meeting.
