COMING-OF-AGE PARTY HELD IN HASTINGS

About 200 guests were entertained ata very jolly birthday party which was held in the Premier Hall, Hastings, to celebrate the coming-of-age of Miss Edna Gledhill. the eldest daughter of Mr and Mrs A. Gledhill, of Whakatu. The hall was prettily decorated in tones of pink with camellias predominating among the flowers. A bright fire warmed the room adjoining the hall where several of the guests enjoyed a game of cards while the younger ones danced. McKav's orchestra pla.ved the music for the dancing and Mr W. Lange was an efficient M.C. Duringj the eveninpr items were given by Margaret Hilleur, a song and Valerie Cleary and Verna Gledhill danced a tap duo, the piano accompaniments being played( by Mrs Merrit and Mrs Andrews. A delicious supper was enjoyed by everyone and the beautiful pink birthday cake, with. its 21 candles. was greatly admired. A toast to the guest of honour was proposed during supper and her engagement to Mr Edward Boese was announced. Miss Gledhill wore a gown of petal pink silk velvet with silver lame trimming and a silver halo. Her bouquet, which had been made by Mrs F. Cleary, was of pink sliaded flowers A very jolly party was brought to a close with the singing of Auld Lang Syne.
