(Received 3, 11.30 a.m.) NEW YOBK Aug. 2. Mr. Harold Yanderbilt's yacht, Banger, won the second of the races in the Amerca's Cup contest against the challenger Mr. T. O.M. Sopwiths Endeavour II. Despite crossing the starting-linc ahead and maiutainilig a 700-yards lead for the iirst hour in a seven-mdle south-by-west breeze, Endeavour rapidly beI gan to fall behind Banger. The Ameriean boat caught up with the Endeavour before the end of the iinst leg and was 1.7 miles ahead at the 10-mile inark and 2.25 miles ahead when the run home started and approximately 2.5 miles ahead. when she finished, The British boat was sailing smartly in the staffening 1'2-mile wind at the end and, in a longer race. she might have made a better showiug, but as it was she anffered one of the inost serious defeats in the history of the cup. Mr Sopwith requested a one-day rest under the rules. The next contest will thercfore be held on Wednesday. To-day 's race was for the most part run in heavy mist,
