HASTINGS WOMEN'S CLUB MEMBERS ENTERTAINED BY MRS. T. H. LOWRY
An afternoon party, with a variety of interests which gave- great pleasur'e to everyone, was held at the Hastings Women 's Community Club yesterday, when about a hundred - members and friends were present. The club rooms were decorated vvith yellow flowers, Iceland poppies chiefly, bevause the hdstess and club presideut, Mrs T. H. Lowry, had chosen a yellow schem'e. - Mrs Lowry, wore a frock of navy blue cloque with white flowers at the neck. In oue room bridge was arranged by the leader of the bridge circle, Mrs 'H. M. Bishop. Here a number a tables were filled, and prizes given for mys-, U-ry numbers were won by Mrs Rees Davies (contract) and Mrs H. M. San-. dors (auetion). In another room niah jong was enjoyed, the winner of the prize being Mrs G. It. Baillie. . Iu the main 'lounge non-eard players wure dolightfully entertaiued with muslcal items, competitions and talks. Mrs C. B. Spinney sang.very charmiagly, aud Mrs H. S. Robinson gave several piano items which were much enjoyed. Several competitions -were held, these causing much thought and amusement. A word-building conlpetition was won by Mrs A. M. Brodie, and a telegram competition by Mrs E. Y. Simpson. A competition in which the names of tlie trees from which a variety of leaves were picked had to be guessed, was won by Mrs D. W. Hursthouse and Mrs H. V. Hoadley, while another oue, guessing the contents of several' envel•opes, was won by Mrs K. E. Crompton. All the prize winners received dainty prizes from Mrs Lowry which had been bouglit from tbe recent exliibition oi articles made by English * disabled soldiers and sailors. During tho afternoon Mrs T. H. Lowry spoke about. the Red Cross Society, and mentioned the coming visit to New Zealand of Mr de Gielgud, the Interuati'onal Red Cross secretary, a man of fine personality, who will tour New Zealand and address tiie people about Red Cross work. Mrs H. W. G. Baird spoke about ber visit to Holyrood Palace, and interest*. ed the membors vvith her descriptions of the Palace and the photos she passed round. Al] present were Mrs^T. H. Lowry 's guests for afternoon tea, which was a most delicious oue served by the Pasadena tearooms. In the centre of the tea table was a two-tiered cake tied in yellow in keeping with the scheme for the afternoon. As a result of the party and .Mr T. H. Lowry 's kindncss in being the-hosl-ess for afternoon tea, the furnishing fund for the new club rooms shoul'd beneiit considerably. Among those present were: Mrs T. H. Lowry, Mrs H. M.
