CLOSE GAMES

Saturday Hockey Series KIWI DEFEAT SCINDE One or two ' of the games of hockey played on Nelson Park, Napier, on Saturday were very closely eontested. In the men's senior giaiao between Kiwi and Scinde there was little to choose between the teaois, both sides playing good hockey and keeping the game going at a fast pace throughout. Kiwi emerged vitcorious by three goals to two, but territorially Scinde were about equal and took their full share of attacking. Both forward lines play* ed well, and passed quickly and cleverly, but the Kiwi half line was a trifle superior, Both sets Of backs played splendily. In the women 's senior game Napier beat the improving Tui team by one goal to hil. The game was a very good one, and Tui put up good opposition to the excellent Napier combination; in fact, the younger team were on the attack as often as Napier, but failed to? finish off well in the circle. The Te Awa team, too, met unexpectedly strong opposition from Huia, who held them in check for most of the game, and at one part looked like winning, for they were 'the iirst to score, Miss L. Lulce sending one into the net. Miss J. Redshaw equalised shortiy before time was called. In the men's junior games Kiwi Blue scored a rather lucky win against Scinde by two goals to one, for Scinde had rather the better of what was a very even game. Taradale A had a Tunaway victory against Kiwi White, who played a rather ragged game. , Another close game was that between Kiwi Gold and Taradale B, the former winning by three goals to two.
