Glamorgan All Out for 229 BATSMEN FAIL

I SWANSEA, July 31. | The weather was beautifully fine and the wicket good for the opening of tho match between New Zealand and Glamorgan. With Cowie under treatment for gastric influenza in London, and Dunning and Eoberts unable to play, New Zealand faced a difficult task in attempting to dislodge a county standing sixth on the championship table. They succeeded creditably with very steady bowling, supported by safe catching. Lamason bowled off-spinners of admirable length and at ono period his figures were eight overs, four maidens, eight runs, three wickets. Moloney • turned the ball well and maintained a good length. Page, Weir and Carson were useful supports, but Vivian, after a yery fine spell of accurate bowling, split his finger and retired. Gallichan maintained a steady length and was remarkably inexpensivo. The Swansea wicket was fast, but receptivo to spin. The Welsh crowd showed typical fervour at the sensational opening of New Zealand 's innings. Matthejvs, a former Northants fast medium bowler, now. coaching at Stowe school, who qualified for the team through his birth at Penarth, took two wickets with successive balls in his first over. Clay and Jones, who are the same types as Goddard, also had quick successes. New Zealand scored a hundred in an hour, but lost six wickets, all the batsmen forcing the pace. Another wicket fell in the last oVer. Vivian, Lamason and Gallichan are to bat. The match .coincided with the start of the bank holidays and the attendano was about 5000. Scores: — , GLAMORGAN.
