(Special from '
AUCKLAND, Last Niglit. The annual balance-sheet of the Auckland Baeing Club shows tlie revenue from race meetings during the •year at £39,729. Salaries, wages and pensions reached £12,747, wliile land and iiicpme tax, rates and' water rate absorbed £3,569. Cashi in the bank is sbown at £12,943. The president's report i'ndicated that the year was a very successful one. A rather promising iiovipe now being worked consistently at Ellerslie is Jolly Dance, and a continuation of her preparation will see her produced very fit in the maiden class at the Avondale spring fixture seven weeks hence. 'On •the verge of her fifth birthday, she has. not ddiie much racing, but breeding suggests that she will be capable, for she is a sister to the defunct Jolie Money, who was very smart and would have won some big spring prizes but for his untimely end some years "ago. The ex-Plymouth trainer, E. George, who did so well with good horses in Hipo and Lady Quex, to name a couple only, is located at Avondale with a small teain. The best is undoubtedly Fersen, winner of the last New Zealand Cup, and this Australian gelding is coming on nicely in his preparation for the spring handicaps. It is possible that he will be given a run at Ellerslie in threa weeks time, probably in the sprint, and this should sharpen. him up for his Avondale and Mitchelson Cup engagements, while it would not occasion surprise if he does not attempt to repeat his New Zealand Cup performance.
Une of the nicest two-year-olcls raced this season was Beverley, who carried the same' colours as Tray Bit, whose owner is Mr T, H. Kenny, one-time president of the now defunct most-north-ern turf body, the "Waipapakauri Racing Club, whose track, a good one too, was right at the foot of Ninety Mile Beach. Beverley did not reveal much form in liis few races, but it was obvious that he was not being hurried along and so he should some to hand when required a better horse. This colt may make his three-year-old debut on his home track at Avondale at tlie spring fixture. Gay Rebel went into temporary winter quarter s with a reputafiqn of being one of the most improved horses in the Dominion, for witliin a space of three weeks he not only won three races-, but emerged from the maiden class to win an open handicap in tliat period. Gay Rebel has not had a hard time of it sp he should be ready soon to face the barrier once again and it would not be surprising to .find him in the Avondale Cup field, for his owner is the popular president of tHe suburban club. This Gay Shield gelding should be able to see out a mile and a half. Related to Te Kara. The Avondale trainer, S. G. Lindsay, numbers among his present team a maiden gelding by Bronze Eagle from March, dam of Queeai March and Te Kara, and as he looks as i£ he will act up to liis breeding his career Will be followed with interest. Lindsay is also keeping his two good winners of this season, Paso Robles and King Theo» in steady work and they will be ready for early spring racing. The former may do better this term in the o-pen class, while King Theo has revealed stamina and may pick up one of tbe country cups or handicaps". When she won her first race at Whangarei in the autumn, the three-year-old filly Alyth did her job in workmanlike manner, alth&ugh it was not considered that the form was worth much. However, at the Great Northern meeting she raced among the best hacks and ran two very fine races, following this up with another promising effort at Te Awamutu, so that she may have to be reckoned with in tho hack classes in the spring, It is more than liltely that Alyth will be scen out in tho minor events at the Pakuranga fixture at Ellerslie in three weeks time and she will be one of the fittest runnera.
