LORRY STRIKES HOUSE
Sleeper's Rude Awakening DRIVER SLIGHTLY INJURED To be awakened by a motor-lorry which mounted the verandah of her home and craslied vlolently against the wall of her bedroom was the experience of Mrs S. H. Burgess, of Coote road, Napier. After tearing away a section of the verandah the lorry overturned and the driver received ininor iniuries to his back. Driven by Mr James Kenny, a Napier bottle-dealer, the lorry proceeded up Shakespeare road from Port Ahuriri and had just turned into Copte road at 4.20 a.m. when it swervea suddenly into the fence of Mrs Burgess' home. Tearing away the gates, the lorry mounted the verandah, which was a short distance from the road, tore away a glassed-in portion of the verandah *ud crashed heavily against ihe house, breaking two panes-of glass m the bedroom window before overturning and rolling on to the ground. The injuries received by the driver svere not sufficiently serious to warrant uis admission to hospital. The lorry was removed from the wreckage with the assistance of a break-down van and towed into a considerably damage condition to a gar. age.
