ARMAMENTS COMPARED
Britain Heads American Naval Summary (Received 30, 10.30 a.m.) WASHINGTON, July 29. The Navy Department has published sO'ealled summaTies of comparative naval data in whieh Britain leads with 285 warsMps, totalling 1,216,398 tons. The United States has 325 (1,083,330 tons), Japan 200 (74,604 tons), New vessels being built in Britain arc five batfleships, five aircraft earriers, 21 light cruisers, 46 destroyers and 19 submarines. The United States figures are respeetively two battleships, three aircraft earriers, nine light cruisers, 55 deBtroyers, 17j submarines, and one heavy cruiser. Japan has no battleships, two aircraft earriers, four light cruisers, 14 destroyers and three submarines. The New York Times in a leader says that there is no end to this mad race, and earnestly pleads with the United States to refuse to be drawn inn.
