MR JOSEPH EDDY

A well-known resident of Port Ahuriri, Mr. Joseph Eddy, passed avvay on Monday morning at the age of 81 years. The late Mr. Eddy was the pioneer of trawl fishing in Napier and his boat, the Bella Mary, a sailing vessei, was the first of its kind to be engaged under this systcm. Previous to this, seine fishing off the beaeh was then in vogue. A stearn trawler, the Endon,. was later purchased and used in conjunetion with the Bella Mary. The late Mr. Eddy had been engaged in the fishing industry for the last 50 ycars. He came out to New Zealand in 1887 and had been a resident in Port Ahuriri since that date. He was a prominent member of the Salvation Arniy and had been connected with that organisation for over 30 years. He is survived by his widow and ' a grown-up family, Mrs. C. Adams, Napier; Mrs. T. McGrath, Wanganui; Mrs. G. Grant, Napier; Mr. F. B. Eddy, Greenmeadows, and Mr. J. Eddy, Tokomaru Bay.
