Matapiro Branch Meets Porangahau Ladies A meeting of the Matapiro branch of the Farmers5 Union was held in the Sherenden Hall, there being a fair attendance, Mr W. L. Nelson presiding. Messrs R, P. Hill and J. W. Palmer, lielde in'structors for Hawke 's Bay, were present, the latter addressing the meeting on "Supplementary Crops and Pasture Improvement. 5 5 A sequence of excellent lantern slides was shown illustrating all phases of the address, but mainly emphasising the importance of isowing the flnest and purest seed obtainable from the best selected strains of grasses and elovers. Be touched on the growing of lucerne, root and forage crops, together with the saving of grass ensilage as safeguards against periode of acute feed shortage whieh. sheepfarmers are experiencing at present. Subterranean clover, the sowing of scrub-burns, and the work of the Department of Agriculture in seed certification and of the Plant Eesearcli Station were also among tEe subjeets dealt with. A hearty vofce of thanks was oxpresised to Mr Palmer for his interesting and instructive address and to Mr Hill for his oifer to address subsequent meetings.
