Golden Jubilee of Salvation Army in Hastings MR. MADDISON'S TRIBUTES The final gatliering of the Hastings Salvation Army golden jubilee last evening was a eplendid success, extra seating accommodati'on being necessary in the hall. Lieutenant-Colonel Gratlan, together with the Mayor, Mr G. A. Maddison, directed the proceedihgs. A programme was provided by the Salvation Army Band and singing company from Napier and the Hastings musical combinations, assisted by several individual artists. j Mr Maddison, in speaking early in the evening, said that he trcasured the privilege of associating himself with the Salvation Army on the occasion of the jubilee. He became reminiscent, speaking highly of the pioneers of the, Army iu Hastings, and he related memories of his boyhood days and his contact at that time with Salvationists. He had always admired the simple way the Army had of ininistering to the ueeds of the people, he said. The corps had not only built up itself but had kelped considerabjy in the building of the Ckristian Church. The Army held a very warm place in the hearts of the people of Hastings. Mr Maddison said that what we aeeded iu church and town and country and nation was a great spirit of coopurution, exUiliug comuion sclisc, syuipalhy, go.odwilJ and helpi'ulness, bascd on thq teachings of C'hrist. As , the chief cilizeu of the town of Hastings, tic heai'tily congratulated the corps on attaining its golden jub'.lee. It had passed through many difficulties and liud seen many triumphs and won many victories. He concluded his reiuurks by saying: "Go on froiu strenglli to aireugth; do not falter." Tho Napier Singing company provided ihe vocal selections, "FoJlow the Flug ' ' - and "Tho Ureat Call"; tlie Hastings songsters another two, "Jcsus, Tliou Art Every thing to Mu" and the anthem "Cry Out aud Bhout. " The maiches and selections by tbe bands were onjoyed, especiaily tho coruet solo, with band ncconipauiuient, by Buudsman Taylor, of Napier. Thu title of tbe piece was "Maoriland." Miss Vaierie entertained the congrega tion with a cba rining recitation and a vocal solo in costuinc, "The Cr.noline. " Miss Dewson also provided an elocutiouary iteni. A pianoforte duet by Miss Joau Westerinan and Miss Marion I'riest wus very pleasing, airJ \ocal solos weie provided by Mr 1L. Sawyer and Mr C. Jackson.
