Auckland and wfi.Q fiave not been heard of smcfi Saturday afternoon when it ' is beljeved tfie vessel wa* sightod off Hook's Points Waiheko Iriand, The owners of the lannch wero Hsr* old, Reginald and Wilson Bright, aged 22, 20 and. 16 respectively, who ato engaged in farming at Kennedy's They were accompanied by Jack BeR, aged 18, who is employed on his fa-1 ther's farm at Kennedy's Bay, and Peter Noyer, aged 57, an employea on the same farm. The party was coming to Auckland to see the Springbaks in action, againat Auckland, leaving Kennedy's Bay at 9 o'clock on Friday night. Thef party* was seen 12 hours later * at Colville where fhe launch called to take aboarff ' provisions for the trip and lnbricating oil. Mr P. T. Pickering, step-fathqr of| the Bright brothers, stated by tele-i phone from Kennedy's Bay to-night that the Ngaru'a engine had only recently been installed and that thej water pump had not been working too' well. The party told people at Colville they were having trouble with thq new engine, Mr Pickering said, bnt they hoped to reach Auckland in timai for the match. They said They intended to hav© the water pump fixed at Auckland and they left Colville on Saturday morning with sails set. The next report, which was not de* ilnite, was that the Ngaro was off Hook's Point, Waiheke Island, at abont 3 o5clock on Saturday afternoon, since when nothing has been seen or heard of the boat. The N. Z. Herald's Waiheke Island correspondent stated to-night that the entire island had been communicatefi with to ascertain whether any sign of the craft had been seen by residents, The report stated that the seas were rough. The Admiralty survey ship Endeavonr has been communicated with. from Waiheke Island bnt to-night it had
seen no sign of the missing launch. If the weather modevates it is possible the Endeavour will put off a launch with a shore party to conduct a search. In any case the Endeavour will take part in the search to-morrow unless tho Ngaru is found in the meantime.
