MODERN-COMPOSER RECITAL BY NAPIER MUSICIANS
Members of the Napier Musicians' Society met last evening in Blythe's tea-rooms. The president, Mr P. W. Tombs, • expressed pleasure at seeing such a good attendance. The programme for the evening, which was of a very hdgh standard, -was arranged by Mr Tombs and Mrs L. J. Prime, and was chosen from the works of modern composers. Before each item was presented, a short talk on the life of its composer was given and Hstened to with much interest. « The accompaniets for the evening were Mrs L. J. Prime and Miss Winifred McCarthy, X.R.A.M. The programme was as follows: — A paper on Modern Music, prepared and read by Miss Dorothy Buckingham, L.R.S.M.; vocal solos, "Have you seon but a white lily grow" (Liza Lehmann) and "Blackbird's Song" (Cyril Scott), Mrs R. E. Sowter; instrumental trio,a Berceuse and Sch.erzino (Ces^r Cui), Mre L. J. Prime, Messrs F. Hunt and I. L. Prime; vocal solos, "Cythe" (Hamilton Harty) and "When Childers play" (Whlford Davies), Mrs Myrtle Daniel, F.T.C.L.; vocal duets, "I Did Not Khow'f (Geehl) and ' ' Come to the i'air ' > (Eaathbpe Martin), Miss Nona Ualdwell and Mr H. Dowling; violiu solo, Sonata in G Jlajor (Bsposito), Miss Frances Fox, L.R.A.M.; vocai solos, "Goin' Home ' ' (Dvorak) and • • Myeelf , When Young" (Liza Lehmann), Mr- H. Dowling; vocal soloa, ••Three Aspeets" and "There" (C. Hubert Parry), Miss' Dorothy Buckingham, L.R.S.M.; pianoforte solo, Prelude, Chorale and Fugue (Cesar Franck), Mr E. C. Jamieson.
