Rugby Queen Election

TIKOKINO, Last JNight. Tikokino on Saturday afternoon let itself go in an efi'ort to raise funds for the local candidate in the Rugby Sub-Union queen election, Miss M, Roach. The first event was a wlieeibarrow derby, which provided no little exciteinent. The course was irom the the Post Qffice corner to the hotel, aud the various participants were ioudly cheered on the way. The result was as iollows :—W . Barrett and Miss 1. Eilmera I, Roy Simmonds and Mra d, Parkinson 2, J. Eilmera and Miss G. Pedersen 3, This was followed by a tootbuil mateh, Married v. Siugle, wliieh created a gjreat deal oi interest and 1 e~ sulted in a win for the married team by eight points to six. The Benedicts atlacked strongly from. the start, and iiill Qollins was nearly over from a hve-yarids scrum. Shortly afterwards a nice passing rush, in which Woods, Rood. Meissner and Dunn took part, enabl'ed the last named to seore a neat try, which Rood converted with a magnihcent kick from the side-line. Up-and-down play followed and eventually Morrison went over to score for the Bhchelors. French failed with the kick. This reverse etirred the married men and they inRiated a strong attack, a fine passing rush, in which the ball waa handled by Lowes, Wood, Meissner, Dunn and Rood, finishing with a try between the posts by Rood, but he failed to add the extra points. In the second spell the single men made a gr^at etfort to make up the leeway and French dummied his way through the opposition and touched down between the posts, but missed the kick. The remainder of the game was eveply oontested, no further score being registered. Mr S. Harvey, of Smedley, was in charge of the ganie and gave the players a cousiderable amount of latitude.
