Ball for Queen Candidate From Our Own Correspondent. ASHLEY CLINTON, Last Night. The residents of the Takapau pnd Ashley Clinton districts scored a big success with the ball held in the Ashley Clinton Hall in aid. of the candidature of the Takapau Carnival Queeu, Miss Edgecombe. Visitors gathered in large numbers from all over the district and a very happy spirit prevailed. making the baii one of the most successful held in the district for some years. The queen candidate was the recipient of many good wishes for her succesg, The hall was tastefully decorated by the settlers of Makaretu and Ashley Clinton with the local fdotball colours, red and black. A very dainty supper was supplied by the people of the district free of cost and served by the ladies and football players. The musio was supplied by the Buffalos' Orchestra, and Mr R. Reid acted as M.C. During the proceedings, Mr W. Johnston, captain of the Takapau club, in an apt speech, introduced the queen candidate and called npon Miss Olgie Jensen to present a bouquet of violets made by Mrs Brinson. Miss Edgecombe suitably replied and was received with niusical honours.
