WAIROA LINK • Goods Service To Napier In August PROPOSED TIME-TABLE

WAIROA, This Day. Goods trains, should be taking freight to and from Wairoa on and after August 23, according to an announcement made last evening by Mr G. H. Maekley, General Manager of Eailwaye, at 'a conference between about 40 delegates xepresenting all sections of the business .and farming community. and Mr Maekley and departmental officers. General satisfaction was expressed at the proposed arrangements. The proposed time-tahle is:— • Trains Inward. Sleeping cars leave Wellington attached to Limited express at-7.15 p.m., arrive at Wairoa 6 a.m. Rail car ic..vea Palmerston North 7.21 a.m., after connecting' witli the down Limited express from Auckland. Arrives at Napier 12.20 p.m.; departs 1 p.m.; arrives at Wairoa 3 p.m. Rail car connects at Napier with. express leavirig Wellington at 9.40 a.m. and arriving at Napier 4.57 p.m. Leaves Napier at 5.30 p.m.; arrives at Wairoa 7.30 p.m. . / . * - Trains Outward. Rail-car leaves Wairoa 6 a.m., arrivce at Napier 8 a.m.; connects with 8.18 a.m. express; arrives- at" Wellington 4 p.m. This train connects at; Palmerston North with the New Plymouth • express and att Woodville for Wairarapa. . v ■ Rail-car leaves Wairoa 2 p.m.; ;arrives at Napier 4 p.m. Leaves Napier 4.24 p.m.; arrives at Palmerston North 9.20 p.m. connecting with Limited express for Auckland, arrivee 9.30 a.m. next day. - - Steam train with sleeping can leaves Wairoa at 8.40 ,p.m.; arrives at Napier 11.45 a.m. Leaves Napier at 11,55 p.m.; arrives at Palmerston North at' 4.5 a.m. Connects with the night express from Auckland and arrives at Wellington 7 a.m. - Goods Trains. Goods loaded at Wellington up to 5 p.m. will be in Wairoa by 2 p.m. next day. The goods train for Wellington will leave Wairoa at 7.15 p.m.. arriving at Wellington the following afternoon. Special goods or stock trains will be run -as required. The goods servicea are due to commence about August 23 when tho line should be fit to take the traffic. Passenger Trains After Christmas. "I should say there is not the ghost of a chance of taking a passenger over this side of Christinas, ' ' stated Mr Maekley in xeply to a "question. "The.; engineers have been- held up for material, and our hopes for a passenger service before Christmas hav« been dashed." Railway representatives attending tho conference were: Messrs G. H, Maekley (general manager), H.. Valebtine (second aissistant general manager), G. J, Bertenshaw, chief engineer; G. T. Wilson, transport superintendent; W. Schierning, district traffic manager; A. Orton, • bus agent; A. W. Wellstead, commercial manager, and H. L. P. Smith, district engineer. Public Works engineers present were: Mr A. Dinnie (district engineer at Napier), and Mr A. G. Harris, resident engineer at Wairoa. The Mayor Mr H. L. Harker, presided, and extended a welcome to all the delegates, including Mr D. W. Coleman, in whoso electorate Wairoa is. After the time-table had heen approved by those present the varioui details in connection with railway facilities were discussed
