HASTINGS ORPHANS
Fortnightly Korero Held napier savages' visit A large number of orphans gathered last evening at the fortnightly korero of the Hastings Orphans' Club, providing further evidence of the keen enthusiasm being taken this year in the club's activities. The* programme was in the hands of a party of members of the Napier Savage Club,* except for orchestral items, which were played by the Orphans' orchestra. Before the evening's entertainment began, members observed a short silence as a mark of respect to late Orphan. T. Emmerson, an old and keen member of the club. Chief-Orphan U. M, Campbell, in handing over office for the evening to Chief gavage H. Tonkin, extended greetings to the Napier Savage Club and pointed out the advantages of such inter-club visits. Savage A. E. Renouf, in good form, told a fresh batch of humorous stories ih his typical style. Savages E. G. Stevenson, Thompson and Bentley suppiied songs. Savage Drummond played two violin solos, and Savage Prime played Aute solos. Orphan Hunter (a former Savage) told a series of humorous stories collected in his traVels of recent years, and Savage Johanson's. elocutionary items were also enjoyable. The Orphans' Club's orchestra, under the baton of Musical Director C» Bryant, has recently obtained several new members and supplied the orchestral portion of the programme. Two items, an overture, "Golden Sceptre" and a selection "The Eagle's Nest", were played, as. well as some shorter items at intervals. * The Hastings Orphans' Club's membership has had a decided boost this year with about 35 new members.
