Now Ready for Royal Assent sp0ns0rs congratulated
(Received 24, 12.30 p.m.) RTJGBY, July 23. The Matrimonial Causes Bill is now ready for the Royal assent. The effect will be to add to adultery, formerly the sole grolind for divorce, additional grounds of desertion, cruelty or incurable insanity. A feature of the Bill is the first clause, which provides that no petition for divorce may be made within a given period after marriage. Fixed originally at five years, the period was reduced by tbe House of Lords to three, and this was approved by the House of Commons to-day with discretion given to the courts to accept a petition sooner in oases of exceptional hardship or depravity. The Bijl has been eighteen' months in its passage through Parliament, and Mr A. P. Herbert and its other sponsors were to-day recipients of many congratulations.
