KIA TOA BOWLERS
Satisfactory Position of The Club PAST SEAS0N REVIEWED The annual report of the Kia Toa Bowling Club expresses appreeiation of the general position of the club, and notes with satisfaction that the membership has been maintained, a number of young players having taken up the game and showing great promise. The report goes on to state: — The shield games were all enjoyed, and it has been possible for all members to participate, which is the idea behind the shield. The club participated in all the Centre championship games, but were not successful. We were represented in the fours by Messrs Adamson, W. Harris, Brown and Godber. In the pairs we were represented by Messrs Adamson and Simpson, and in the singles by Mr Paul Brown, who was successful in winning six out of nine games. Inter-club games: This phase of club lifo has been a most successful one, we having played nearly all the other clubs in the Centre, besides paying a visit to Pukeora. It would be a splendid thing of all secretaries of clubs throughout the Centre were to meet at the beginning of the season and prepare the itinerary. Havelock North were the holders of the J1. P. Smith Cup. Messrs Eixon, Somervill, Harris and Fenwick were the challengers, and were successful after a very fine game. The final stages of the club compe'tition were reached in the singles and pairs; handicap pairs and singles were uncompleted. In the junior championship Mr. E. E. Eixon was the winner, and we congratulate him on his fine performance. A number of rinks participated in the Easter tournament, but none was successful. Godber 's rink was successful in winning five out of six games, but was not eligible for section "play. This appears to be a flaw in the new system of play. The thanks of the club are due to our greenkeeper, Mr. W. Harris, for his untiring eiforts in keeping the green in good condition and the beautiful garuens that he has maintained throughout the season. We offer good wishes to Mr. Joe Perry, a past treasurer, who is Iaid aside with illness, and wish for a speedy recovery; also Mr. Panl Brown, who is at present in hospital, we wish him a speedy recovery. We desire to, thank the Croquet Club for the afternoon teas dispensed during the season and donation to club funds. These have been.much appreciated. We extend our "thanks to members who have made donations, and especially to Mr. H- J. Grieve for his very fine gift. We also thank all members who have'assisted in any way, .and they can rest assured that' their services a^e heartily appreciated.
