BOXING AT WAIPUKURAU

a Our Own Correspondent.)

Good Bouts for Next Thursday

(Fror

WAIPUKURAU, This Day. Officials of the Waipukurau Boxing Ulub were busy sorting up the nominati.ons for next Thursday 's amateur tournament when a Herald-Tribune reporter found his way into the club gymnasium last night. The local six-stone star, B. Nicol, had just finished a brisk work-out, and appeare to be in pretty fair trim. Hcis to meet J. Collins, from Palmerston, and those who know the boys' capabilities are looking forward to a bright encounter. . Six willing rounds are promised in the return match between A. Eitt and Jack Davis, the two ' welters who put on a real fight at Hastings last Saturday. This bout ia being staged at the request of both contestants, and will no doubt provide the highlight of the evening. Kitt, who is the present holder of the amateur welterweight title of Hawke's Bay, has fought three previous bouts with Davis, the exchampion. Two of the decisions have gone to Davis, so it is easy to guesB that Kitt will be on his toes and going all out to even the score. On the other hand, a chance to* down the champion again will appeal to his opponent. Another good fight can be expected in the four-rounder between Joe Collins, of Palmerston, and Harry Mclvor, Hastings. A bright feather . in Joe's cap is the Manawatu f eatherweight championship, but he is said to^carry a bit too mueh weight to the .Btrictly dn that class just now. Mclvor is a boxer with some experience and plenty of what it takes, so patrons have a. right to expect a bright exhibition. ' Foiirteen matfches in all will be staged, with - boxers selected " from a talented bunch of nominations. Fight erithusiasts ought to get their money's worth of bright boxing. ' '
