Effort to Revive Community Interest
From i
WAIPAWA, This Day. Reference was made. by Mr F. Eagle at last night' s meeting of the Waipawa Chamber, of Commerce to the Jack in interest taken by the community in local football. While football itself was probably not a matter which could be handled by the chambertjhe said, the operations of a good football club in the town brougbt a certain amount of trade with ,it. With the visit of the Springboks football at tlie present time .was a matter of national importance, but the wave of enthusiasm which was at present sweeping the country 6eemed to have missed Waipawa completely. I.ocal football was at a low ebb and the only way it could be built up was with the support of the publio. He had been advised by the chairman of the sub-union that the Te Aute -Wanganui College match, which had been originally set down for Waipuk rau, would now be played at Waipawa on Saturday, August 21, and urged that something be done to see that there was a good attendance. Mr Jull said it was definitely a matter for the chamber to interest itself in the sport of the town. Mr Kingston said that lack of support was making it increasingly difticult for the club to carry on} and that with proper assistance there was no reason why Waipawa should not again' be prominent in the football world. It was decided that the chamber interest itself in the matter of fostering football.
