NEW BOUNDARIES South Island Constituency Lost to North TAKAPAU IN PAHIATUA

WELLIN GTON4 Last Night. - The eUmination of a SoUth Island electorate and of Oroua in um JNortn. island and the addition of a. new electorate on the outskirts of Auckland and another in tlie territory adjoining Wellington are the prineipal changes proposed hy the i&epresentation Commissions appointed to adjnst houndaries in afcocrdance with the distrihution of population revealed hy the census taken last year. The Oroua «eat is at present held hy the Hon, J. Q. Oohhe, a supporter of the National Party, while in the South a Labour supporter, Mr. A. Campbell, will lose his constituency, Chalmers. The only suhetantial changes affecting the Hawke's Bay province are the inclusion of the borough of Wairoa in the Hawke's Bay 'electorate and the extension of Pahiatua to include Takapau. The changes were announced this ©vening hy the Minister in Charge of the Electoral Department, the Hon. H. G. B, Mason, who emphasised that it wac open for anyone to mahe repreeentations in writing to the Commission eencerned urging a modiflcation of theee proposed honndaries. The time for lodging the ohjeetions has not yet been specified, but will be notified in the Gazette. It is expected the time given will be nntil the end of August. Owing to the changes in the relative density of population in various districts of the North Island, said Mr. Mason, a new electorate was proposed at Otahuhu, a few miles south of Auckland City, and a new electorate also round the outskirts of the Hutt Valley. It was proposed that the latter electorate should include the territory to the east of Wellington harbour from the neighbourhood of BarihgHead lighthouse to the head of the Hutt Valley, as well as the territory to the west of the main railway 4ine in the Hutt Valley and extending conthward to inelude Porirua and the intervening area in the neighbourhood of Ngaio. This new electorate was to be eallea Wellington Suburbs, although it ineluded hardly any of the territory formeriy in Wellington Suburbs and was eomposed almost entirely of territory taken from the former Hutt and Otaki •le&torates. The old Wellington Subnrbs electorate it was proposed to call Wellington West. Oroua Electorate. "Two new electorates in the North Island are thus provided," said Mr. Mason, "but the net gaiu is only one, for it is proposed to eliminate the Oroua electorate, for which tlie sitting member is the Hon. J. G. Cobbe, M.P., •nd merge portion of it in the Rangitsk^i electorate and portion in the Manawata electorate. " The greatest change in Auckland city seats is that of Auckland East, which now includes the Borougb of Devonport., Grey Lynn practically remains ihe same, Auckland West and Central gaining toward the east, the latter fikirting the domain. Suburbs Ioses. ihe Boroagh of Birkenhead ; Eden abd Roskill suff'er slight alterations only. Parnell is re-named .Remuera, and ioses a small part south of Mt. St. John, Onehunga includes the Borough of Onehunga, and the greatest parts of One Tree Hill Borough and Ellerslie Town District. This formerly coraprised the greater part of the Manukau electorate, this name haviiig beeD lost. . Otahuhu, a new seat, lies to the west ©£ the Main South Road south of Ellerslie Town District, a portion of which is included, and extends south to the Wairoa river. The Borough of Otahuhu and the town districts of Papatoe-' teo and Howick are included. * The Bay of Islands Ioses Hikurangi and the surrounding district to Marsden, this jatter- district losing on the south Warkworth and Waiwera to Kaipaxa, which in turn Ioses Helensville. Waitemata includes the borough of Birkenhead, Northcote and Takapuna, and extends norllmard to iucludo Silverdale and Helensville. Hauraki Boundaries. Franklin remains as at present, this and Eglnont being the only districts iq the North Island to do so. Hauraki now, extends from the Wairoa river on the north to the HamiltonTe Oroha railway* line, and follows the Waihou ..xiver to the sea, the wcstern boundary . remaining practically unaltered. Thames includes tliq counties ef Qreat Barrier, Coromandel, Thames nnd Ohinemuri, includiug the inlerior toroughs ua well as Te Aorha. Tauranga extends to-tlie Rangitaiki river and now includes Matamata Borougb and the immediately surrounding district. .Rotorua .is very little altercd, tlie prineipal amendment being the excluaion of- Matamata from Hinuera northwarcL Hamilton Ioses parts of Rototuna and Rukuhia. Waikato extends from the Hamilton-Te Aroha railway to the Puniu River, including Te Awamu tu, Pirongia and Paterangi, which have been exeluded from Raglan. Waitomo, with the exception of the exclusion of TeAwainutu, remains practically unaltered. ■ "* - Waimarino extends southward to inelude the .borough of Taihape. Stratford is nnaltered oxcept for the Isclosion of ' Beppertpn, which is exiduded from New Plymontli, otherwise nnaltered.
