LIFE MEMBERSHIP,

Hastings Scots Honour Mr.. and Mrs. Baird badges presented To Mr P. J- Priest, chief of the Hastings and District Scots Society, fell the honour of presetttxng to Mr and Mrs H. W. C. Baird badges of life membership of the society at the Pipe Band Ball in the Hastings Asselnbly Hall last evening. In making the presentation, Mr Priest eaid that Mr and Mrs Bai rd were the first life members of the society and that it was due to their untiring efforts that the society had been suCh a success both financially and otherwise. He said that they would both be long remembered by the members of the society, and he hoped that „they would share the pleasures of many more ot the monthly inglesides. . Mr Priest then presented Mrs Band with her badge, and before calling upou Mr Baird to receive his he said that on the back was inscribed, "Chief o£ t?i« Society for 6 years and 8 mpnths." Mr Baird is now the patron of the society. Everyone present joined in the singing of "For They Are Jolly Good. Fellows," and three very hearty cheere were given for Mr and Mrs Baird. Mr Baird, thanked Mr priest and the members of the society for the honour of life membership which had beea conferred upon Mr*s Baird and Mmselfi Hc said that the success of the society had been due to the ioyal support and oo-operation of all the members, and that he and Mrs Baird felt that they had made miny lasling friemlsliipa thTOUgh their connections with the Scots Society. These had more than eompensated tham for any of the work that they had done. Mrs H. W. Q. Baird also thanked fcha society and added that She had very much enjoyed having this link with Scotland, which was so dear to her.
