In reply to a verbal enquiry: Last year's census showed the population of Napier borough as 15,302 and of the Napier "urban area" (inclusive of Taradale) as 18,689, and that of Hastings Borough as 12,750 and of Hastings "urban area" (inclusive of Havelock North), at 17,961.
