AUCKLAND, Last Night. . A former Mayoress of Auckland, Mrs Oharlotte Elizabeth . Devore, of St. Stephen 's Avenue, Parnell, diod on the event of her 85th birthday. Hei liusband, j\l'r A. E. *T. Dovore, with the late Mr J. B. Russell, established the legal firm of Russell and Devore, and until his death in 1916, ho was Ofie of Auckland 's leading solicitors. In 1882 he was elected to the City Council and held office unopposed as Mayor from 1886 to 1889. Mrs Devore retained many membries of the elder social life of Auckland, and of numerr ous past governors and governors-gen-eral, includilig Sir George Grey, Sir Hercules Eobinson, the Earl of Glasgow, the Earl of Onslow, Lord Eanfurly, Lord Plunket and Lord Islington. She possessed a remarkable collection of invitations to ROval and viceregal functions, mementoes of distinguished people whom she had met and photographs and newspaper cuttings dating from 1870 onward.
