Ballot on Formation of National Body

AUCKLAND, Last Night. Should the ballot conducted on Weduesday and Thursday of omployees of gas works favour the formation of a national union, it is stated as iikely that a f urther ballot will be taken among skilled tradesmen in the industry, who wero cxcluded from this week's ballot 'to see if they are prepared to join in the movement. The Fcderation of Labour has under considei'fttfon the question of sueh a vote by skilled tradesmen. The Labour Department, which condueted the ballot, distl'ibuted 543 voting papers in Auckland, togetker with addressod envelopcs to the Secretary of Labour, who is virtually the returning officer. Members of two unions only, the Auckland Gasworkers* Union and the Auckland Clerieal Gasworkers' Union,were eligible to vote, and as the eligible voters throughotit New Zealand nfimber approximately 1700, it will be seen that he Auckland vote is likely to be important in the ultimate resuiti
