Lit Cigarette and Caused Explosion

FOXTON, Last Night. An outbreak of fire, from which fortunately there were no serious consequences, occurred at the rear of Measrs. •C. M. Ross Co.'s premises in Main street, Foxton, shortly before 2 o'elock on Tuesday ^fternoon. An employee who had been cleaning the front window sills of the premises with benzino in a basin took the container to a shed at the rear of the building after having completed his job, washed it out with water and after drying his hands lit a cigarette. An • explosion immediately followed and •lOOlbs. of kapoe in a room adjoining, separated by a fiimsy partition from the other room, immediately burst into fiames. The brigade was able to suppress the outbreak, however, before any serious damage was done, The outbuilding being of brick and eoncrete, was onlv damaged in the ceiling and dooiway. A quantity of old records was destroyed.
