Strong Rebel Fortifications At Gibraltar CONTROL OF STRAITS

(Received 22, 1.0 p.m.) GIBRALTAR, July 21. A Spanish loyalist agent, after inepaetion of the locality, asserts that German topographical experts, operating throughout Spanish territory adjacent to Gibraltar, have built widespread fortifications from Algeeiras to Tarifa comprising two batteries of 14inch guns at Getares Bay, 5$ miles from Europa Point, a 16-ineh battery half a mile distant and also three 16-ineh batteries at Punta Carmera to reinforee the 16-inch battery adjacent to the moun- j tain, whieh is equipped with anti-air- j craft guns. Three powerful searchlights illuminate the Straits throughout the night, the Straits here being 12 miles across. Germans are fortifying Sierra ; Garbonera, the highest peak dominating Gibraltar. j
