Meeanee Group

The usual monthly meeting of the Meeanee Women ;s Institute was held in the schoolroom, there being a fair attendance of cnembers. After the opening proceedings the president welcomed three visitors. Feeling reference was made to the loss the group had sustained by the sad death of Mrs. J. Ericson, the members standing in silence. The secretary, Mrs. Bimler, was instrueted to write a letter of sympathy and condolence to the relatives. Business was discussed in connection with the group birtliday celebrations, tc- be held on August °2l and cnembers were reminded of the drama festival, to be held at Taradale on August 12. A roll call, "What our grandmothers did without," xevealed that many thingS which' they would have considered impossibilities later became luxuries and are now considered necessities. A welcome afternoon tea was served by the hostesses, after which Mrs. Johnson, of Taradale, gave a useful and instructive demonstration on the making of rag rugs, which was keenly watched by all present, and at the conclusion Mrs. Johnson was heartily thanked. Thought for the month. — "Life is mostly froth and bubble, yet two things stand firm like stone — kindhess in another's troublo, conrage in our own." An entertaining competition, guessing proprietary articles from advertisement pietures, was conducted by Mrs. Coker, the winners being: — Miss M. Coker 1, Miss O. Fairey 2. The monthly competitions, kindly judged by Mrs. Johnson and Mrs. Monk, resulted as follow: — Eggless cake. — Mrs. Collins and Miss M. Coker (equal). Soft toys.-r-Mrs. Coker 1, Mrs. Robinson 2, Mrs. Greene 3. Bcst bloom. — Mrs. Simmonsen 1, Miss O. Fairey 2, Miss M. Cocker 3. The singing of the National Anthem concluded the meeting.
