Our Own Correspondent)

Funds for Omakere-Otane-Te Aute 'Queen

(From

OTANE, Last Night. On. Tuesday night in the Town Hall, £he Otane Football Club held a most successful dance in the interests of the Omakere-Otane-Te Aute football queen, Miss McHardy. There was a good attendance, the surrounding districts being well represented. Also present were several members of the Central committee, Waipukurau, including Mr McCormick, chairman of the Central Hawke's Bay Rugby Sub(Jnion, who introduced Miss McHardy, expressing grateful appreciation of her action in accepting nomination as queen for this area and the assistance she had already given to the cause. Miss McHardy was accorded a very cordial and hearty welcome by all present. Mr McCormick also briefly outlihed the objeets for which the queen carnival was being held, and stressed the great benefit its success would confer on present and future Central Hawke's Bay footballers. Excellent music was played by Les Henry's orchestra, the popular melodies inspiring one and all to join the iherry throng of dancers, who were in carnival mood and spent a thoroughly enjoyable and happy evening. Much appreciated extras were contributed by Mr Warren August. The duties of M.C. were most capably carried out by Mr J. MacDougaii who was ably assisted by Mr G. Burgess. A most delectable supper of sweets and savouries was served by the committe members, under the supervision of Mrs MacDougaii. It says much for the organislng work of the secretary Mr MacDougaii, and the committee, that in a week, when many and strong counter-attractions are being held, they were able to arrange a function that was an outstanding success both socially and financially. During> the evening several competitions were finalised, the winners being Miss Isabel MacDougaii, Mrs Spargo and Mr G. Burgess.
