Presence All the Year Round not a c0mmercial prospect
(By Telegrap
WELLINGTON, Last Night. When the barquentine Cap. Pilar waa pfl Cape-Brett a few days ago, the erew caught a tuna, Up to then a tuna had ueen caught off the New Zealand coast in every month but July, so that the iUfcest capture completes the cycle and is considered of great importance, demonstratiug that the fisli ai'e in Dominion water s all the year round. Much information has been gathered in the course of the past few years regarding the habits of tbe tuna and tbe extent of its presence off the New Zealand Coast. Off Caniornia afid Mexico where the fish is caught commercially, it is considered as beittg present in such waters for a few months only of the year. Several men who have interested themselves in the presence of the tuna off New Zealand consider that the difficulties in the way of its being fisked commercially are not connected with the quantity available but in the financial outlay. Live bait would have to be employed, and to keep such fish alive means the employment of tanks in which there is a constant renewal of sea-water. So impoi-fcant is this factor that some tanks used on the fishing eraft off America have an ingress pipe of 12 inches. Provision of this plant alone would be a heavy financial item.
