DAIRY PRODUCE YIELDS
Pay-outs Not Uniform
STANDARDlSATION CHECKS
The wide fluetuations in cneese yields and butter over-runs that had been apparent in the balance-sheets oi dairy companies so far available was commented upon by Mr E. K. Cameron3 dairy company auditor of Hawera, at the annual meeting of the Oaonui Co-operative Dairy Company. He touched on the need for guarding against factories endeavouring) to secure high yields to pay a higher price, over the season than other factories, now that the price received for the produce had been stabilised by the Government guaranteed price schenTe, which paid a fixed price according to grade. The dairy industry he said had been hedged in with numerous regulations and constant checking by inspectors with a view to bringing about a standardisation ih manufacturing, marketing and accounting. The company bal-ance-sheets so far available showed tbat in spite of the regular check by inspectors and the furnishing of statistics of ma'nufaeture the guaranteed price scheme as a whole had not resulted in anything like a uniform payment to suppliers. Cheese yields and over-runs had fluctuated considerably, and some remarkably high percentages had been reported, while butter overruns had been no more stable. Althougih manufacturing costs to f.o.b. showed a decided advance, payments generally would be slightly higher than for the previous season.
