Palmerston Man's Gift of £1000

WELLINGTON, Last Night. Following the exampie of the Bishop of Wellington, Rt. Rev. H. St. Barbe Holland, who has given £1000 towards the proposed Anglican Cathedral in Wellington, it was announced to-day at the Diocesan Syhod session that Mr. C. I£. Handley, of Palmerston North, a synodsman, would forward a cheque before the end of this month for a similar amount to be devoted to the cathedral. Other gifts- also wero reported. The Bishop of Wellington 's contribution was ^erroneously telegraphed yesterday as £100. It has been estimated that the cost of the land will be £70,650, the cost of fh'e Oa'thedral £200,000, and the cost of a Synod Hall, etc. (in Sydney street) £20,000, making a totaX of £290,650.
