Flyers Officially Dead HUSBAND'S HOPE L1VES HONOLTJLU, July" 19. At aunset on Sunday the Nayy announced that the seaxch for Mrs. Earhaxt Putnam and her-navigator, Mr. F. J. Noonan, had ended, acknowledging the fliers officially dead. The Lexiogton immediatcly set a course for the mainland. At Lps Angeles Mr. Putnam said he would xefuse to believe them dead. The New York Times says that the search was . the greatest ever mass rescue effort for & lost 'plane.- Over 3000 men, ten ships and 102 fighting 'planes took part, as well as an undisclosed mnmber of Japanese aircraft.
