Baird, president of the Hastings Chamber of Commerce, last evening at the meeting of that body when he referred to a recent report from Austrar lia that at Adelaide it was proposed to spend some £25,000 on a building scheme uhder which the houses would cost £450 to erect and the rent wojild work out at about 12/6 a week. "Now why can't our Government do something like that over here?" he asked. Mr F. E. Smith: They intended to do 60. Mr F. G. Rush-Munro: Then they c+;sixted to build- them. so muoh nicer.
