Havelock North Meeting ' At the monthiy meeting of the Havelock North Women' s institute, Mrg W. Bridgman (vicc-president) presided in the absence oi the president through lilness (Jne new member was elected, and a special welcome given to Mrs D. J. iiiggef, and to Miss Viney, who has had much to do with institute work m Dorset. A dainty shoulder spray was presented to Mrs Leedoin, as an expression of appreciation oi her ever-ready .help in musical matters. Mrs lligger spoke for half an hour on various aspects oi Institute work and procedure. Espectally interesting was an account oi tlie recent round-table confereuce iu Wellington, when represeutatives from the thirty-two Federations met for discussion oi probleins, and for a two-days' "school". Mrs Rigger was heard with kecn attention, and at the close oi her talk received a charming posy. Miss Y'mey, m a briei speecb, told how the lLnglish institutes have worked together in all the counties to keep alive the liandicratta and ioods peculiai to each. She urged New Zealand mernbers to rescue the Maoti cralts, and also to try ,to recover some of the letters written by the early pioneering women to their friends at Home — "iiving history," to use her own graphic phrase An adjournment was made to. the grounds ot the hall, where tools, tree's, and holes were waiting, the latter kindly prepa'red by Dr K. E. Crompton and Mr T. Holms. Everyone set to work, and trees of several kinds were planted, in the hope that they would llourish and beautify the village. A very welcome aiternoon tea was served by the hostesses, Mesdames Bond, Frost, Gilbertson, James, Lock.yer and Waugh. The layette garments already eompleted were on vievv, and were verj umch adniired. Competition results were announced as follows: — Scoues, Mrs Buck ; butter,less sponge, Mrs Goldtincb ; best bloom. Miss Crombie. The National Antheiu closed a busy and protitable afternoon. -
