Koolman Beats Brinson

WAIPAWA, This Day. Following on the success of the *professional wrestling bout staged at Waipawa a fortnight ago, step.s were taken by a number of interested enthusiasts to crganise a local_ association with a view to arranging further matches, and as a result of thcsg activities the second contest was held in the Municipal Theatre last evening, the main bout being betweeu Anton Koolman ( 12.7) of Wellington, holder of the ligbtl'cavyvveight chatupiouship of New Zealand, and Herb. Briusou (13.0) of liasiings. Tho bout went to Koolman with falls in the sixth aird Bevecth rounds. There was a very good attendance of the public. Although not producing ts ruueh in the way of fireworks a3 the \ revious encounter, the bout proviiled an exhibition of good, hard wrestling with occasional highlights. Mr A. S. Nicholls acted as referee for all the bouts, and the announcements were made by Mr H. G. Apperley. The first fall came to Brinson in the i'ourth round when, corning out of a rolixng short arm scissors, he clapped on a jack knife. The fourJh round finxshed with Koolman holding Brinson in a short arm scissors. From the start of the fii'th rouud Koolman we ti t nght qut for a fall, and working Brinson into an Indian death-ioek secured a submission fall. With the start of the seventh round Brinson threw Koolman round the ring severai times, but on his next attempt Koolman threw himself back on to Brinson and obtained a fall from a back body press. The results of the amateur bouts were as foilow : — J. Boyd (8.4) defeated Lea Lewis (8.5) with a fall in the 1 hird round; McCormick (10) secured n points decision over Whittaker (9 12); Adams defeated McQuilkan by a fall secured in the second round; a fall in the second round gave Billy Hamilton (11.0) the decision over R. Petersen (11.0); a -bout bctween Oeo. Norris (13.7) and Alfie Scudder (12.0) resulted iu a draw, ng fall helag fecorded.
