Good Clearance at Firm Rates CONCLUS10N 0F SERIES (Beceived 17, 11.40 a.m.) LONDON, July 16. The wooi saies ciosed With an offering of 7256 bales, includihg 5001 from New Zealand, 5994 being soid. Competition was active and good clearances were efi'ected at firm rates. New Zealand scoured merinos, Kosedale, made the top price of 305 d., tbe average being 30 3-8d. Siipe quarterbred lambs, Kaiapoi, made 235d j halfbreds, ditto, top, 2l^d., average 19ld. Throughout the saies 71,000 bales were offered, of which 23,500 Australiau and 29.000 New Zealand were sold with 5500 Australian and 16,000 New Zealand held over. The home trade bought 37,500 bales and the continent 34,500. Competition was increasingly active as the saies progressed. Better-class merinos werd rather dearer. Faulty pieces wero par td 5 per cent lower. Fine Crossbreds recovered the initial loss and CloSCd at par. Goarse giades were firm throughout. Slipes olosed 5 per Cent lower. Williams and Eettle, Ltd., report: The fourth series of London wool saies ciosed yesterday, the 16th instant. The saies have been auimated throughout, with keen competition from all quarters; prices are very firm and unchanged from the laat series, which ciosed on May 6. The rates for crossbred wools of average style and condition are as follow: 36/40 's, 15£d to 16dj 40/44 *s, 16d to 16id; 44/46 % llKl to 16 Jd; 46/48 '6, 16Jd to 17d) 48/50 % 16£d to 17id. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., has received the following cablegram from its London honse Under date Of the 16th instant; HOme buyers are the principal operators. Competition on French account is f'airly avtice. As compared with last sale's closing rates, prleen ate hdgher par to id per lb. for greasy super merino and medium greasy merino; lower ld per ib. for inferior scoured merino, coarse crossbred slipe and medium crossbred slipe; lower ld to lid per lb. for fine crossbred slipe; lower pat to Jd per lb. for greasy inferior merino.
