Motor-Cycle and Lorry Collide SMASH AT WHAKATU Wlxen a mot'or-cyele he was xiding was struck by a motor-lorry near the Whakatu works last evening, Leslie Clyde Boyce, of Whakatu, was killed instantly. Mr. Boyce was 23 yearS^of age, a married man with oih.6 child. The lorry was driven by Russell Witliam Speneer, aged 17. The collision occurred shortly after 4 o'clock on the corner outside the store by the Whakatu freezing works. The bend wliei'e the accident occurred is a sharp one. The inquest was opened at the Hastings Poliee Station this ntoi'riing before the district COroner, Mr. G. Ebbett, J.P., but after formal evidence of idetxtifieation had been given by the deeeased's father, Edwax'd Morgan Boyce, the heariixg was adjotirned sifie die to enable the poliee to ffiake further investigatiOns. Mr. Boyce, snr., in evidence said that his soa had held a driver 's licence for live years, and that during that time he had never had a previotts accident. His hearing and eyesight were norma!. When he arrived at the scene of the accident, witness said, he noticed a 30-foot skid mark which appeared to have been made by the cycle after it had been hit by tho lorry, and the cycle was lying at the end of it.
