Queensland Board Formed to Conduct Nutrition Inquiry
BRISBANE. — The Queensland Government has appointed a State Nutritional Advisory Board with authority to make what inquiries it may think necessary into the nourishment of children, the diets used in public institutions, deficiencies in the staple articles available to the working man, and othcr important aspects of nutrition. Some surprise was eaused by the announcement as there is at present a Queensland Nutrition Council, set np by the University of Queensland, acting as a local committee of the Commonwealth Advisory Council on Nutrition. The chairman of the Queensland council, however, welcomed the Government board, and in a statement to the press deelared that while the council and the newly-formed board woulil be separate entries, it was pleasing to have Government recognition of responsibilities in the matter of nutrition. There are certain aspects of inquiry, he said, which could hardly be handled by a non-governmental body. The State 's assumption of its own responsibilities, he added, would leavo the council more free to conduct its' own inquiries for which its supporters were generously subscribing.
