COMING-OF-AGE PARTY FOR MISS VIOLET BAIT

An aij of merriment and jollity prevaile.d at the very successf ul coming-of-age party which was held on Wednesday evening • in the Friendly Society Hall, Hastings, for Miss Yiolet Batt. The host and hostess at the party were the parents of the guest of honour. Mr and _Mrs H. G. Batt, Southampton street, Hastings, and the evening wae drganised by her sister, Miss J. Batt, who was assisted by Miss O. Newland ■and 'Mr E. Curtis. With Mr Gordon Eedward at the piano tho dances proved the most popular items of the- evening, tho vrinners of the competition dancos being Miss E. Gregory and Mr W. McCarthv, and Miss M. Wavcrhcuso and Mr E. McGarthy. During the evening items were given by Miss Liae Wdlson, who sang two popular numbers, ""So Do I" and "A Chapel in the Moonlight." Mr Tohi Thornburrow again proved his ability as a conjurer by delighting the audience with some Very fine tricks. Mr Tom Banks sang a song ''Alone," and concluded the item with a very clever tap dance. During supper a toast to the guqst of honoar was proposed my her unc'Io, Mr Birch, and, after her father had presented her with the key of' ihe door he thanked his daughter 's - f riends for gathering together to celebrato her twenty-first birthday. At 12.15 a.m. Mr O. Jonson proposed another toast, this being for a cousin • of Miss Batt's, Mr Laurie Faulding, of Feilding, who is spending his annual holidays dn Hastings, and whose birthday was the day following Miss Batt's. The guest of honour wore a .skixt of 1 ; nigger browu velvet with a flame Eussian evening blouse. Mrs H. G. Batt wore a gowh of navy blue matelasse with a short fawn coat, and her other daughter, Miss J". Batt, wore a frock of white angelskin eilk with a scarlet shoulder spray. Williamson,, deep blue gown with bluo spray to tone; Miss M. Larado, fiamed velvet with silver shoes and coi*sage clasp; Mdss Franklin (Porangahau), flowered taffeta with white background; Miss Y. Wairoa, black skirt with pink evening blouse; Miss L. Wilson, pink taffeta froek; Miss A Gregory, fitting frock of blue velvet; Miss E. Gregory, frock of lemou lace; Miss P. Calnan, deep green organdie with frilled skirt; Miss G. Johnson, florai taffeta, shirrcd corsage trixnmed with red roses; Miss M. Lewis, floral frock; Miss M. Lomas, dusky orauge lace with brown velvet finishing; Miss E. EoiJ, black volvet flnished with red trimmings; Miss I. Koil, green kabe crepe with orange spray; Miss H.
