Powers of Master Carriers in Traffic Licencing DAIRYMEN'S CRITICISM
(By Telegraph-
WHANGAREI, This Day. Suppliers of the Hikurangi Dairy Co. yesterday passed a resolution strongly protesting against powers for the vetoing of issue of heavy-traffic licences placed in the hands of the Master Carriers' Association, an interested party,, and was of the opinion that producers' representatives should have that power. Mr A. Wigbin referred to the system as being "worse than Tammany Hall" and said t"hat there was a prospect of the directors having to crawl on their 'hands and knees to the Master Carriers to have cream carted on one run. He understood on good authority that the Carriers' Association would atfcempt to prevent farmers possessing trucks from carting manure and goods from railway stations. Mr Elliott, chairman, said he was surprised at the alleged statement by Mr E. J. Plielan, No 1 licensing authority, to the efi'ect that his future attitude would be inliuenced largely by Ihe wishes of the Carriers' Association.
