(From

To Be Bntorcea.— — i.c. [WAIPUI^tJBAIJ. This Day. At the monthly meeting Of the Waipawa Hospital BOard yesterday it was decidcd to enforce. the oy-law that patients be admitted to the Waipukurau District Hospital, betw'Ccn. the hours of 10 a.m. an3, 4 p.m., Dr. Eisher, medical superintendent, introduced the subject, saying that tt WOUld cause less iilconveni.enco to the nursing Staffa and. medical ofiicerg. Urgent cases would, however, be admitted at any time, he said. . "It is our intention to enforce the by-law which Bays patients shall bo admitted between, the hours of 10 and Xour," said Dr. Fisber. We have been very lax in the matter m tne past but I tnink ft is time we did eomething to enforce it, in order, to make easier tka-work of the Ofiice Staff, nursing staff and medical staff. Feople have got into cne habit of regar.ding the hospital as they regard, a hotel, where they can unter at any time, It iS Offly a matcer pf educafc.hg the phblie and getting accustomed -to the change, and I wotild like the siipport of tne boara members, We shall put the hours of admissi.on on our admission onrds, eo that there will be no excuse for people, not h-nowing the hours," The chairman, Mr. W. H. Bathbone: "In my opinion it is very hard to enforce "this by-law, You cannot refusa to admit people 'and if you are going to enforce this by-law xigidly 1 r.hifiir you are going to upsot the ieelmgs of people in our district," Mr. D. W, Neild considered. that the board should enforce. the by-law for its own safety. The. superintendent explained to the chairman that enforcing the , by-law would mean an improvement in the admissions of such cases as people who had known for some time that they wouid have to enter hospital. It would prevent them from wanting to be admitted at such. an inconvenient ti.me as, say eight o'clock at night. At least 80 per cent. pf the board 's admissions wero non-nrgent cases. It rested with the doctors whether a cass was urgent or not. No. furtler discussion ensued, the enforcement of the by-law not being opposed by anyone. It was considered that publieity given to the decision wonld help to make the change effeetive with a tniuiTnnm of inconvenience.
