Vivian scored an aggressive 87 out of the first 127. He hit nine fours and two sixes. Carson gave an encouraging display, his.stroke play being characterised by its certainty. His ecore inciuded five fours. He was eventualiy dismissed leg hel'ore to the left-handerj Grigor, who was bowling round the wicket. Kerr was freer than in recent games, registering, nine fours, inostly drives and pulls. The New Zealand bowling was restricted, Roberts' shoulder itill preventjng him from participatiug. Weii and Carson were the opening bowlers, but Moloney and Gallichan were soon called upon.
