WAIROA, Last Niglit. The Hospital Board met on Tuesday afternoon. Present: Messrs P. J. Brewster (chairman), M. P. Chapman, M. G. M. Williams, J. M. Taylor, H. L. Harker, and A. T. Carroll. Tbo chairman made a statement regarding tbe complaints about a nuisance at tbe effluent from tbe hospital septic tank. — On tbe motion of Mr Harker, it was decided that tbe chairman sbould again take up tbe matter witb tbe Health Inspector. Te Health Department advised payment of £1500 on account of subsidy. Tbe department also advised that tbe board bad no authority in law to sell any of its property on a seeond mortgage. . 'i'lie County Council wrote approving of tbe board 's decision not to ineet levies this year by a loan, but hoping that next year's capital levy would bo met out of tbe proposed saies of property. Mr C. 0 Morse, Mayor of Napier, who liad ^teen asked some time ago to advise the board on what its present lay-out should be so as to make tbe struelures a bout to be undertaken to fit in witb tbe new hospital wben being erected, approved of the present site, wtueli could be lowered, and made a r.amher of vnfuable suggestions sup-[•"-vted 1>- olueprints. T+, was- stated that Ihe ' suggestions i prettj well coni'ormed to the req.iireinents, and it was decided to thauk Mr Mdrse, and to intiniate that the board would be glad to meet bim again at any time. ltegarding tlie board 's proposal for specialist treatment by combining ;» number of boards for tbe purpose, t.lie IlowLe's Bay Hospital Board wroto that the matter was to be dealt witb on tbe 12th inst. The Waiapu Board wrote stating tbat tbe need might bo ovenomo by tho proposed Natioaal h"alth scheine. — The board decided to await replies froin other bodies. Tbe Waipawa Hospital Board advised that Dr. Sbort, tuberculosis specialist, would be visiting Wairoa on tho 28th inst. Tbe P.W.D. Medical Association wrote asking for a mondiflcation of tho hospital treatment agreeinent to pi-o-vide for a fee of 4/6 per day for adults ana 2/3 for children. — Tbe chairman said tbat in discussing tbe matter members sbould remember that Wairoa was the only board that paid a part of tbe salaries of tbe district nurses. It was decided lo reply that the workera were now earnir.g better - wages tban ever before, and tbe board considered tho taeilities oli'ered were sufiicient. Hill wrote resigninr his po^ition on tbe board owing to" ilJheiiRb. — The chairman said be was very sorry that be bad to accept tbe resig-x-.ation on sucb grounds. Mr Iiill bad iieeTJ a good member an^ had done his best wbile on tbe board, and he haped he would soon be in better health. He mo* ed tbat a letter of thanks be sent to bim. Mr Harker seconded tbo rnoticn, wbich was carried, be and alJ the menxbers endorsing tbe tribute paid by tbo chairman. Repoits Preseuted Tbe medical superintondent, Dr. M. G. L. Hallwrigbt, reported: Number of patients remaining at May 31, 47j number admitted -during June, 49; number discbarged during June, 5,0; number died during June, nil; number remaining at June 30, 46; average number of occupied beds, 44.7; number of operations, 16. Tbere bave been eleven patients in hospital for ovet eight weeks, • The matron, Miss E. S. Harvey, reported: Tbe health of the sta.fi bas been good, witb tbe exception of Miss Molly Kelly, assistant laundress, who slipped qncf mjured ber wrist and was off duty for two weeks. Miss McKay, an aid, bas left to eommence ber training at Napier HospitaL I wisb to tbank tbe foilowing donors of gifts: llowers, Mesdames McDonald, Vale, 8xxnmonds, Cowan, ^Miss Exwin; pot plants, Mr Hocking; turkeys, Mr Bmvtb; magazines, Mosdnmes Sproui, Kosenberg, Coker, Mr Shannon; old lineii and lisb, Mrs Turner; fruit cake, Mr Morrow. Tbe Band gave a most enjoyable programme of music ohe Sunday afternoon, wbicb was mucb enjoyed by both patients and staff.
