All-round Increase in Rates

WAIPAWA, Last Kigbt. At tbe June meeting of tbe Waipawa County Council tbe cbamnan, Mr N. M. Paulsen, g)ave ^otice of bis jntention to move tbe necessary resolution for the striking of the annual rate. When the subject was reacned at this montb's meeting of the eouucil Mr Paulsen said be bad i'ound it necessary, on going fully into tbe question, to move an all-round increase in tbe proposed scbedule to cover tbe increased cost of administration, brought about by the various industrial awards, and tbe increase#! cost of materials After a considerable amount of discussion it was decided, to strxke tbe i'ollowing rates, the amount oi last year being also given for tbe purposes of comparison.
Takapau Sanitation £2 15/-, no alteration. Tbere was some discussion on' tbe hospital levy, and tbe question of striking a special rate to cover it. It was finally decided tbat the axnount (slightly over 4/- of every £ collccted) sbould be sbown on the demand, so tbat latepayers will see what it is costing tbe county. It was also resolved to strike a barbour rate of 2-ll.ths. of a penny to meet the rate imposed by tbe Napier Uarbour Board.
