MR FREDERICK W. WATT
Tlie death has occurred at Ashburton, of Mr Erederick William Watt, one of' the most prominent public men in the county. Mr Watt was born at Wellington in 1877 and went to Ashburton as a child. He was one of the promoters and first chairman of the Ashburton Power Board, holding office for 21 years. He was a former member and chairman of the Hospital Boprd and had been responsible for many improvements and advances, and a former member of the Borough Cpunoil, on which be served for several years, being chairman of the drainage committee when sewerage was installed. Mr Watt was a past-master of the New Zealand braneh of Manchester Unity Oddfellows, and his outstanding serviee on that body was the drafting of legislation by which members on Great War serviee received s-iek benefits, a seheme involving £30,000. Mr Watt was also a -prominent Freemason. He leaves a widow, one son abd three daughters.
