Batsmen Not Aggressivo Against Yorkshire VIVIAN'S GOOD KNOCK
(Prom tho 8pecial Correspondenfc of the (Jmted Presa Assooiation with the Teanj. )
(Received 13, il.O a.m.) LEEDS, July 12. New Zeaiand began the day promisingly but batted disappointingly. Ile^italised bowlingi and good catching quickly disposed of the last five Yorkshire batsmen for 49 runs. Dunning shfewdiy varied his pace and flight, his morning figures reading 10 overs, Lwo maidens 26 runs, thvee wickets. Vivian and Lamason mad6 good catches on the boundary^ The New Zeaiand batsmen aiways give the impression that it is they and not the bowlers who are being attacked The Yofkshire bowling was strong and varied and was supported by keen fielding. Although Kerr ahd Moioney opened promisingly and Wallace and Ddnneliy were aggressive, five wickets were down for 141.- . Weir and Vivian, figfiting determinedly, added' 61 at a diffieult time. Ihe partnership was broken convenienbly for the county just before the production of the second new ball, which quickly disposed o± Vivian. He had fcatted for an hour, 6Coring five fours and one six. It was his most successful innings since the match against Middlesex. The follow-on was thus avoidcd, but the last three Wickets fell cheapiy, effective resistance ending after tbe runnihjp-out of Page. Yorkshire batted for a qyarter of an hour. The attendance was 6000. The unexpectedly good gate yielded :£20o, while the takings oii Saturday amounted to £220. Scores : —
