Social Welfare Expenditure THE ' HASTINGS flGURES A total of £123 16/9 was distributed by the Hastings Social Welfare Committee of the Hawke's Bay Hospital Board during the oionth of June, compared with £137 18/- for the prevlous pionth, A report to this effect was placed before the meeting of the board yesterday. "It has been said outside, " commented Mr. S. J. McKee, "that tliis amount was steadily growing bigger. As chairman of the committee I should lihe to deny that. The amount is 100 per cent. better than a year ago, when for the month of June £316 was paid out, cooipared with £123 last month. I have all the figures for the year, and they have been showing a steady impr6vement all that time."
